Candle FAQs: Your Questions Answered

Everything you've wanted to know about our travel-inspired scented soy candles — from what's in the wax to how to get the longest, cleanest burn. For hands-on tips, see our Candle Care 101 guide.

What are Fernweh Editions candles made of?

Every candle is hand-poured in the USA in small batches using a soy-coconut wax blend and premium fragrance oils. We never use synthetic dyes, parabens, phthalates, sulfates, or toxic chemicals. Curious how soy compares to conventional wax? Read our guide to soy wax vs. paraffin candles.

Are your candles non-toxic?

Yes. Our soy-coconut wax burns cleaner than paraffin, our wicks are lead-free, and our fragrances are free of phthalates and parabens. Beyond a cleaner burn, scent itself has real mood benefits — we cover the research in our guide to the benefits of burning candles.

How long do your candles burn?

Our Classic 11 oz glass tumbler burns for approximately 110 hours; our 6 oz travel tins burn for approximately 60 hours. To get every hour: let the first burn melt the wax all the way to the edges, and keep the wick trimmed to about ⅛". Full details in Candle Care 101.

Why won't my candle stay lit — or why is it burning down the middle?

Both usually trace back to wick length or short early burns. We've written step-by-step fixes: how to get your candle burning again and how to fix a tunneling candle.

How do I choose a scent?

Think about the mood you want in the room. To unwind, try Lavender Fields; for focus while working, Rosemary & Bergamot; for cozy winter evenings, Roaring Fireplace. Or browse by destination — Cascadia, France, Mediterranean Garden, New England, Alaskan Forest, and Pacific Islands — or take our scent quiz.

Do candles expire?

Soy candles are best enjoyed within a year or two — the wax doesn't spoil, but scents can soften over time. Here's how long you can keep them and how to store them well.

Can I bring candles on a plane?

Yes — solid wax candles are allowed in both carry-on and checked bags. Our 6 oz travel tins were made for exactly this. More in our guide to flying with candles.

Do you offer gifts and gift wrapping?

Candles are our favorite kind of gift. Every edition comes as a 3-candle gift set, you can add gift wrapping and a note at checkout, and for teams and clients we offer corporate gifting.

What's your shipping and return policy?

We offer free shipping on all US orders and a 30-day return policy. Details on both are in our Shipping + Returns FAQ.
